Broken frame!

Bit of a problem on my bike this morning! Downtube came to pieces during a road ride, pulling up a hill. I'm alright though (for a change). Going shopping very soon.

Good job it was now on the road and not in the race in September or you may have ended up first to the finish again!!

cheers edric - I think you ride a Kinesis? I'm thinking of getting an Evo4 (aluminium frame with carbon chainstays). Any thoughts (as one who knows how heavily I land)?

That will be my spare this year as I picked up a cheap Dave Lloyd Dedaccia steel cross frame off fleabay and have just garnered the pars to build that up for this year (assuming I get in).I dont know about carbon anything as I jut dont trust its longevity .Im a bit of a luddite in that respect

interesting...bought a 3T about 5 years ago. downtube snapped in a very similar manner to your photo. noticed it climbing out of the saddle and wondered why my back end was whipping around. kinesis replaced under warranty for a 4T. which snapped this year on the chainstay. disappointingly the 3 year warranty didn't get 'reset' after the first frame failure so no replacement. frame now used as a elaborate toilet roll holder! (27.2 seatposts are just the right dia).

75kg rider, bike used mostly for rough commuting but never raced nor particularly trashed.

now gone for steel which is heavy but is a much nicer ride.

Hi guys - thanks for the comments. I've bought an Evo4, and it's riding really nice. Either it's much better at power transfer (quite possible as it's not cracked) or the training's working. We'll see how it goes in Sept! For those who don't know me, I'll be the tall bloke riding a Kinesis / Kona mongrel. (My kids have named it Amanda the Panda, as it's white & black).
