To have a go or not......

Postby Novice Boy » Tue Sep 27, 2011 11:07 am

Hi to you all,
I have supported a good friend of mine for a number of years now as he has completed the race, dashing around with wheels and drinks and energy bars and always wondered could I do it myself?

I am fit, I am a physio and personal trainer and teach 4-5 spin classes a week as well as my other training which includes running. My only concern is the bike handling skills on the descents, I have mountain biked for years but am not a fan of overly technical routes. WHat do you guys think? Should I give it a go and if so what's the best way of working on thos bike handling skills?

Cheers

I have been cycling for 18 months. I've only owned a cx bike for a few months. I hadn't done any off road stuff before January this year. I don't have "skills" but I just completed my first 3 Peaks. It wasn't quick and it wasn't pretty but I did it and there isn't another feeling like it.

Of course you can do it - go for it!
Good luck!

I met loads and myself who considered themselves as rubbish descenders- too much road cycling.... I took quite a while but next year's training will have more running in. I had no running training but ended running down quite a bit of the descents. Lots of people being cautious.

As Lisa says- very hard to beat the feeling. I drove up and down 500 mile round trip, found it really challenged my overrall fitness.

Have previously cycled Lands End to J O'G in 7 days-the feeling of finishing 3 peaks was better- say no more...

Cheers for that, that's it decided then I'll have to give it a go.
I'm doing the London marathon in April so I'll be doing plenty of running, will just have to add in a few hills to get my legs hill ready ha ha.

See you on the start line next year.
