Alternatives to Maxxis Locust

Anyone know of alternatives to Maxxis Locusts? They're no longer available but are apparently one of the two choices according to the below

I had two, but cut the rear in the beginning of an 'enduro' cross race, hitting sharp shale chunks the size of grapefruit. (They took out 4 other riders on a variety of tyres, clincher and tubular. I doubt Land Cruisers would have been spared either.)

I presume its the lower TPI that makes them tougher, and that they roll reasonably easy on the road are the reasons people like them? I'm not terribly concerned with rolling resistance fwiw. I'd rather have good grip on the off road sections.

If no one has good suggestions I'll put the Land Cruisers back on.

Well personally I like the Panaracer Cinder X, I've run these for the past 2 years without any problems, towards the end down Penyghent I'm not at my smoothest and they stood up to some fairly hard impacts without puncturing. Having said that 2 races and 1 person isn't exactly a statistically significant sample - I might just of gotten lucky

I've been an avid user of the Maxxis Locust but like you have not been able to source any old stock. A few weeks ago I went for the Land Cruisers after failing to find a Locust-like alternative.

So far I'm really pleased with them. They seem to roll better on tarmac and I've quickly adapted to them offroad. My only question is whether I should reverse the rear one so that they run opposite to the marked 'drive' arrow. I was worried about the 690g weight but on my digital scales they came in considerably under that.

Looking forward, I think, to trying them in the real test on Sunday.

I wish I only had to worry about the weight of my tyres! I'm carrying a few pounds (to put it mildly!) overweight. Mind you, so will the bike be once it's been through a bit of mud!
