Just to confirm (blog post coming soon!) I have PERFECT shifting now with:
Ultegra 10 spd Shifters
10 spd chain
Shimano New SLX 10 speed cassette 11-32
(old-ish) 9 speed XT medium cage rear mech.
... and 36 / 46 double on the front

Chain / tooth capacity fine
Yayyyy

Excellent, that's reasurring.
Just bought a 9-Speed XT Rear Mech which I'll be fitting tonight, hopefully to work with 105-10 speed shifters and 12-34T cassette (10-speed).

Sorry to butt in/resurrect this. Looking online for a cassette to try the above fixes, are we talking about a "Dyna-Sys" 10-speed XT or SLX cassette here. Thanks

I want to change my bike to this set up for this year's Peaks....my standard cross gears were woeful on the training day this weekend. Does it matter what year Shimano kit I use? The posts above seem quite specific.

Thanks

I found that it was a bit of a squeeze getting the cassette into the frame and so needed to add a 1.5mm washer to the hub to get clean chain movement. I also needed to use a road lock-nut instead of the mtb one. That is on a Fulcrum 7 wheel.

The only other problem is that the XT mech does not come with an inline adjuster and so I needed to add one elsewhere in the system.

It runs very well now.
