Urgent wheel help for newbie

Postby wrigley » Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:47 am

I have just found out that I need to replace my rear wheel on my Kona Jake (and probably my front as well although this is not as bad). The problem is damaged hub bearing races. As it is less than two weeks before the big day I need to sort it out ASAP. As I am new to cyclocross I was wondering if anyone could advise what the best option would be to replace the wheel. The damaged one has a Shimano hub and Sun rim. I am not needing top end racing kit just something strong and sturdy that will get me round at a reasonable price. Does anyone have any suggestions about what wheel and best place to get one (I live in Lancaster)
Thanks
Steve

Maybe a pair of Mavic Aksiums, you could probably pick up a pair for under £80 (do a web search). I have an old pair as spare for cyclocross & have had no problems, apart from changing the bearings after a wet winter (I think I did the Peaks last year on them also).
